Better Concentration and Memory for Better Marks
Concentrating on studies can be hard, especially when the study material isn’t one of your favorite topics.
While studying has never been the most interesting aspect of students. With a strong determination and by implementing some unique & effective study techniques even the dullest or the toughest subjects can be conquered easily with increased concentration during a study session.
Given below are some effective tips for a better concentration and memory while you’re studying:
1. Watch a Documentary on the Particular Topic
Documentaries are an entertaining way of describing an entire story into a short period of time. This will help you remember the key details from a story easily.
Documentaries are the 20th century’s most influential art form. Why? They tell universal stories across national boundaries and languages. Film helps us expand our world, introducing us to values, struggles, innovations, and beliefs beyond our daily experience.
2. Speak Out Loud Instead of Just Simply Reading
Although this might seem you look a little crazy but still give it a go!
Learning by speaking makes you retain the learned things for a much longer time. You will be surprised how much more you are able to remember the topics when you’ve said it out loud.
When you read out loud during studying, your sense of hearing becomes part of the learning process and has various benefits: e.g. (a) you’re more likely to pay attention to the material in front of you, (b) you improve your ability to remember materials and (c) you’re more likely to make connections with things you’ve read before on another page.
You can try this at home when there is no one to disturb you or when you are alone.
3. Discover Some New Ways to Learn
Trying new study methods can help you find what really works out for you. Use technology to your advantage like by watching educational videos on YouTube or by downloading useful study apps.
Finding the best way to study is an ongoing process. It isn’t something that can be left until the night before the test. You should be constantly improving your study skills to better understand what works (and what doesn’t).
4. Exercise & Meditate
Meditation is one of the key methods that can help students stay focused while studying. Not only will meditation help you concentrate in a better way but will help reduce pre-exam stress as it improves both mental and physical health.
It is thus one of the best study techniques for increasing concentration as physical exercises do wonders to health as well as to the mind.
It is better to do physical as well as mental exercises because these increase the proper flow of blood in the human body.
5. Take Short Breaks
Studying at a stretch for about an hour and then taking a short break is a good study schedule to maintain concentration on a given task. Taking short intervals in between studies gives your mind a time to relax so that it can be ready to stay productive and absorb information.
For this, move around, get up and stretch after sitting for about an hour. You can do yoga, push ups, or any other kind of physical activity to get your energy flowing through the body. These short breaks in study will make the time spent studying more productive and attentive.
6. Make Your Study Space Portable
Find a comfortable/ suitable study environment for effective learning, where there are fewer distractions or else study in a separate room. Retaining information actually improves when you vary the places where you study. This will help you on how to concentrate on studying for long hours.
Also, it is important to ensure that the place where you study should be neat & clean with a sufficient amount of material to study. Keeping a dozen books while you study will create fuss & will confuse your mind.
7. Keep away from Social Media
With the advancement of modern technology at every fingertip, distractions at hand come to the greatest.
Don’t send or reply to text messages of your friends or your partner while you are studying. Instead, switch off your phone and switch it on only when you are taking a break or when you are fully done with studies. If you don’t need your PC, turn it off as well.
8. Go to Bed Early
Going to bed early at night & rising up early in the morning helps us in getting good retaining power. If you are wondering how to have a good memory, apply this rule for about a month & you’ll see the positive results in you.
Sleep helps learning and memory in two distinct ways. First, a sleep-deprived person cannot focus attention optimally and therefore cannot learn efficiently. Second, sleep itself has a role in the consolidation of memory, which is essential for learning new information.
9. Visualize What You’ve Read
One of the best ways to increase concentration while studying! Just try to imagine yourself in the place you’re reading about or try to imagine yourself doing what you’re studying. Include yourself in Visualization that you imagine or develop in your mind.
For example, if you’re reading about a War, imagine yourself on the battlefield. The better you imagine yourself in a scene, the better you’ll remember what you are reading.
Visualize as you read!
These are some of the ways on how to increase concentration & memory power. All the above-mentioned steps that can lead you to experience enormous benefits on your memory & on the mind. Follow these tips and see how well you manage your studies now.
